Church Overview

Built in 1928 as a Memorial to George Walpole, Bishop of Edinburgh and his wife Mildred, with assistance from Missions in England and USA. Design by J Walker Todd of Dick Peddie & Todd is a miniature Byzantine basilica with a 'Cross in the Square' plan form, a high central dome and half dome over the sanctuary apse. The local paper commented at the church's opening in 1928 on the strangeness of the eastern design and remarked on how odd it was to see a building without any visible side window. The church has windows, however, including the triple window behind the altar depicting the work of women in the Church and including images of St Margaret of Hungary and St Mildred.

This gem of a church is popular as a refuge from the main shopping area
