Church Overview
Designed by David Bryce in Roman Baroque style with monumental stonework and opened in 1869. The Venetian inspired campanile by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson was added in 1881. Two-storey galleried interior. Special features are the rose window and the pulpit. Woodwork excellent, mainly original. Organ by Thomas Lewis 1897. The first organist was Alfred Hollins, famous blind organist and composer (1897-1942). Busy church centre, fairtrade shop and café.
