Church Overview

There has been a church on this site since before 1244. The present building is a T-plan Gothic kirk of 1805 which John Fletcher Campbell built 'as a monument to the virtues of his ancestors'. The actual designer is most likely to have been Robert Burn. The interior was recast in 1885; the architect was John Lessels. Beneath the church lies the Fletcher Vault, containing the remains of Andrew Fletcher, 'The Patriot', and members of his family.
