Church Overview
Robert Adam 1777, contemporary with Culzean Castle. It is suggested that while working with Lord Cassillis, his client at Culzean, Robert Adam came across the church during construction and recommended some changes, giving the building fine Palladian details. The church was visited by Robert Burns and more recently by President Eisenhower. Following a fire, the church was fully restored in 1997 and the opportunity was taken to research the original Adam colour scheme. Burns's characters, Tam o' Shanter, Souter Johnnie and Kirkton Jean, are buried in the old graveyard, where also can be seen the baptismal font used to baptise Robert the Bruce.
