Church Overview
There has been a church in Heriot since the 12th century. The present church, built 1875, incorporates one of the thick walls of its predecessor which dates back to the 16th century. Designed by J M Wardrop in Early Decorated Gothic Revival style, the building's most striking external feature is its gabled bellcote. The 1875 interior survives with original pitch-pine pews. To one side of the pulit is an old timber offering ladle from the old church; on the other is the hour glass to prevent the minister from 'over-preaching'.
