Church Overview
This peaceful spot has church remnants from 900 years ago. Fogo Kirk is a rare example of a traditional Presbyterian church untouched by either the Ecclesiological revival or modern trends in worship. T-plan kirk in stone with slate roof, the walls date from 1683, with the windows and roof from a rebuilding in 1755.
The interior has box pews and small plain glass windows. Two laird's lofts, entered by outside stairs, have coats-of-arms (1670s) of the Hoggs and the Trotters.
In the vestry is one of the oldest grave stones in Berwickshire. The bell is inscribed 'John Meikll me facit Edinburgh 1694'.
The lychgate is the War Memorial and 16 war graves from World War II are in the kirkyard.
